Slow Cooker Meatballs

Nothing is better than having your house slowly fill with the smell of spicy tomato sauce and savory meatballs. Make these in the morning before work or on the weekend and all you will need to do come dinnertime is make a pot of pasta and you will have a delicious and filling meal!

 Meatballs

Source - Anyone Can Cook

1 egg ~ lightly beaten
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
2 cloves garlic ~ minced
1 pound lean ground beef

Preheat oven to 400F.

Combine all ingredients into the ground beef, mix well then shape into balls - what size you make them is up to you!

Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8 minutes, just enough so they will keep their shape in the slow cooker.  (You can just stick them right in the slow cooker without baking them but they may not keep their shape) Once out of the oven, drain off any fat.

Tomato Sauce

Source - ME!

1/2 large onion (or 1 small)
3 cloves garlic
1 can tomato sauce
1/4 cup red wine
splash of balsamic vinegar
2 tbsp fresh basil ~ chopped
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
(taste and add more seasoning if needed)

Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker and stir to combine, add the meatballs. Place lid on slow cooker and turn to low. Leave for 6-8 hours.

I made spaghetti and meatballs with this but you could put it on a bun for a meatball sub or serve it over hot fluffy rice.
